Watching match in Bangladesh

Scored - Here on a business trip and found the match will be on live.

Only downside - no beer.

Any Dhaka hammers watching and can steer me in the right direction?

Where in Dhaka are you? If you can get yourself to Gulshan-2, there are several international clubs that you can usually gatecrash with a little imaginative talking. All have bars and TV. Try the International Club (I forget the road number, but it's north of the Gulshan-2 circle, then off to the left. All rickshaw pullers know it. Or the BAGHA club, just south of the G-2 circle, near the Gulshan thana (police station). Again, all rickshaw pullers know it. And there are others. Or try one of the major hotels.

Coffee

Good call. I'm in Gulshan 2 and just been to the International Club and had a few beers so got that sorted. Now back to the dry hotel to watch the match

I thought I'd be missing the game in the north of the country but happy to be able to make it.

Bangladesh is brilliant for drinking

The local bars are all blacked out windows and no light inside, can't see anything, obviously locals aren't supposed to drink so full of lowlife

In Chittagong they sacrificed a cow in the street outside our regular, hacked it to pieces with a machete, the blood was still thick on the ground next day, swarming with flies

Hunters beer, mmmmmmmmmmmm

For beer: Nordic Club seems to be the easiest club to get into. BAGHA club (or name something like that) might also be an option: loads of aid consultants, NGO-types and rag trade there I understand.
A few pubs tucked away: the Diplomat or something (near one of the Circles in Gulshan, can't remember offhand if Gulshan-1 or Gulshan-2) I was supposed to pop into last month, only for a fucking work issue on another project to crop up. So didn't make it.
We used to buy beers from the Korean-Bangladesh (or was it Bangla-Korean) Club to take back to our guesthouse, could also take them to quite a few restaurants no problem (though growing numbers of restaurants do seem to provide their own black market beer these days)

There's also a shop called Kabir's that legally sells duty-paid booze. It's under the Mohakhali flyover at the bottom of the airport road as it turns right towards, say, Agargaon or Dhanmondi.

This is the address:
H. Kabir & Co. Limited
12, Abbas Garden , New Airport Road
Mohakhali, Dhaka-1206

I knew that WHO was the place to come for advice on drinking establishments in the far flung corners of the world.

Only here for a few more days so looking forward to us winning the replay back home with a pint in the Black Lion beforehand

Out of pure curiosity and nosieness... what line of work are you in?

Gonna assume construction or engineering?

Bangladesh fascinates me for some reason, absolutely tiny country but a bigger population than Russia.

Is it just fucking mentally busy 24/7?

mashed:

population density of Bangladesh overall, i.e across the country as a whole, is higher than the average American city apparently

Cities bloody chaotic. But very lush countryside. Without wishing to over-generalise, the people despite their cramped (and ever more cramped) conditions are some of the friendliest about.

Most curry houses are Bangladesh and not Indian.

Apparently.
